Hurricane Rita Monument Dedicated - Cameron Parish, LA

Joe Suhor & Keith Gallagher read the inscription on the Hurricane Rita Monument.

On September 23-24, 2005 Hurricane Rita hit Cameron Parish, Louisiana with 130 mph winds and a 20 foot wall of water.  While miraculously none of the 10,000 area residents were killed by the storm, 38 of the parish's 40 cemeteries were breached and 340 caskets and remains torn from their graves, some scattered as far as 30 miles away.  After a year long effort to restore the cemeteries, a monument was dedicated to those affected by the storm and those who helped in the recovery and re-interment efforts.

Korean War Veterans Memorial Dedication

Dedication ceremony for Korean War Veterans Memorial, Overland Park, KS.

 

SI Memorials and SI Veteran Memorials helped build the new Korean War Veterans Memorial located at 119th & Lowell in Overland Park, KS.  Construction began in May 2006 and the memorial was dedicated on September 6, 2006.

SI Assists in Re-Interment Project in the Aftermath of Hurricane Rita

One of the caskets recovered in the aftermath of Hurricane Rita was found in a tree.

When Hurricane Rita hit Cameron Parish in September 2005, 38 of the parish's 40 cemeteries were breached by floodwaters, leaving caskets scattered in tree tops, marshes, pastures and canals.  SI, along with two local funeral homes, FEMA, the Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team (D-MORT) and hundreds of volunteers helped retrieve and rebury nearly 300.

SI Helps Build Nation's Newest Veterans Cemetery

Georgia National Cemetery Dedication Ceremony.

In June 2005, SI Construction Services began a lawn crypt installation project at the nation's newest veterans cemetery, Georgia National.  By the end of the project, SI had installed over 17,000 double depth lawn crypts, the largest-ever lawn crypt installation.  The cemetery was dedicated in June 2006.

SI building new Korean War Veterans Memorial in Overland Park, KS

Construction of Overland Park Korean War Veterans Memorial.

 

SI began construction on the new Korean War Veterans Memorial on May 8, 2006.  The 70 feet long 8 feet high granite structure, located at 119th and Lowell, is scheduled for completion by late August.
